Practical AI for Teachers · v0.1
Build → Review → Test → Reflect → Share
A one-page workflow for using AI as a drafting assistant without giving away teacher judgement or the wrong data.
1. Set the data boundary first
Generic lesson ideas, fictional examples, teacher-written text adaptation, vocabulary/retrieval drafts.
Student-facing worksheets, answer keys, rubrics, factual content, translations and feedback drafts.
Identifiable/sensitive student data, safeguarding records, passwords/private keys, confidential reports and autonomous high-stakes decisions.
Workshop aid only: where school policy is stricter, school policy wins.
2. Write a teacher brief, not a “magic prompt”
Grade/approximate level, topic, time, prior learning.
Exactly what you want the AI to produce.
British English, level, length, task types, what to avoid.
Verify answers, flag uncertainty and revise against your criteria.
I teach [grade / approximate language level]. We are working on [topic or skill]. Create [specific resource] for a [duration] activity. Use British English and approximately [CEFR / difficulty]. Include [features]; avoid [unwanted features]. Before giving the final version, check the instructions, answer key, difficulty and any uncertain factual claims.
3. Review before students see it
Assessment: useful assistance
- Draft question variants
- Suggest distractors for teacher testing
- Turn rubrics into student-friendly checklists
- Create fictional responses for practice/moderation
Assessment: keep human control
- Check every answer key
- Do not expose identifiable student work to an unapproved service
- Do not delegate final high-stakes grades or disciplinary decisions
- Use established procedures for safeguarding/confidential matters
